Technology Skills Update

Posted 07-09-2011 at 01:53 PM by libbyrae

This week for Module 2 I have been working with Microsoft Word. I have also been working with Windows Live Movie Maker, which I had never worked with before. I have also cut and spliced three mp3s together using Audacity.

With Microsoft Word, I experimented with different tabs and columns and tried using some tables as well. I created a quiz for my German 4 students for later in the year using vocabulary and some verb-preposition combinations. I also used some borders and shadings on text when creating a handout for my German 1 students when I teach them about direct objects and how to diagram a sentence.

With Windows Live Movie Maker I was trying to upload some mp3s to facebook so that my dance team members could have access to their music for their routines without needing to copy them to a CD. The problem is that facebook only allows videos and photos to be uploaded, not any types of music. So I created a movie with a picture of the dance team and then the music as the background. It took some work on my part as I really had no idea what I was doing and was trying to do it all quickly and with a 15 month old vying for my attention at the same time! Luckily I figured it out AND figured out how to publish them to facebook and my group's page.

With Audacity I took three songs that I wanted to mix together to create one song for our hip hop routine. The theme is "Nerds" so I chose three songs that feature Nerds or Geeks. I had to play around with Audacity a lot as it is not very user-friendly if you don't know what you are doing. I experimented and then once I finished I had to go back and play with the amplification as one of the songs was much louder than the others, so that took some additional work.

This week has been extremely busy for me and I will be glad when Sunday comes and I can hopefully relax!
