Chapter 12 part 2

Posted 09-19-2010 at 11:41 AM by rek57@hotmail.com

Sam stepped closer to where Kate lay. "You know, I remember a lot of stories about
people drowning in cold water. Even though they were without air for a long period
of time, they could be brought back to life. The cold water preserved them, slowed
or stopped the grips of death."
"And it was definitely cold out there." Julie added.
"That still don't explain why he's pealing her, like a ripe peach." Rick spoke up.

<YOUR FRIEND IS RIGHT>
<THE COLD DID HELP SAVE HER>
<IT ALSO DAMAGED HER>

"Frost bite." Sam said, thinking out loud.

<YES>
<HER OUTER TISSUE WAS DAMAGED>
<THE MIST IS REMOVING THE DAMAGED TISSUE>
<AIDING THE NEW TISSUE IN TAKING ITS PLACE>

Rick studied Kate's chest for a few seconds. "She's not breathing."

<HER BRAIN IS BEING SUPPLIED WITH THE NEEDED NUTRIENT>
<WHEN THE HEALING PROCESS IS DONE>
<I WILL REVIVE HER>

Rick didn't know weather to believe the creature or not. He looked at the controls,
then back at the being. "How do we know your telling the truth?"
"Rick!" Julie didn't give the creature time to answer. "If he's lying, it don't
matter. If he's telling the truth, and you turn it off, you could be killing her."
"What about Peter? He didn't do a very good job helping him." Rick said angrily.

<I AM SORRY>
<I WAS TOO LATE WITH THE MALE>
<HE WAS EXPOSED TOO LONG>

"Why did you have to cut him up like that." Sam asked.

<I NEEDED TO KNOW MORE OF YOUR BODIES>

Sam thought for a minute. It did make sense. How could he help if he didn't know
what to do. "So you really can help her?"

<YES>

Rick walked up to the head of the dome, sliding his hands along the top, as if
embracing her through the glass. "How long?" He continued to look into Kate's face.

<THREE MORE DAYS>
<THEN SHE WILL JOIN YOU>

"Will there be any brain damage?" Rick asked.

<SHE WILL REMEMBER>
<EVERYTHING>

"So all we need to do is find a good hotel for a few days." Sam said, trying to
lighten the mood.
"What is your name? What do we call you?" Julie asked.

<MY PEOPLE NEVER HAD A NEED FOR INDIVIDUAL TITTLES>

"Well we got to call you something." Sam said. "We can't just call you, hey you."
Julie looked at Sam then at Rick. "Any bright ideas?"
Rick had his mind on other things. "What ever." He was still trying to soak in the
knowledge that Kate was alive.
Sam thought about a time he'd seen Julie in a tight pare of jeans, and the little
tag on the pocket that swayed back and forth when she walked, it said Calvin Cline.
"How about Calvin? We could call him Cal for short."
"How did you come up with that?" Julie asked.
Sam looked at Julie, too embarrassed to tell her the truth. "Oh, just remember
seeing it some where."
Julie looked at their new acquaintance. "So what do you think, Cal?"

<IF IT MAKES YOU FEEL MORE COMFORTABLE>
<I DO NOT MIND>

Julie turned to Rick. "What do you think?"
"I think you two are putting a lot of trust in your new, little friend here ain't
you?"
Julie reached over and put her hand on Rick's. She new he was upset and confused
about all that's happened, and she was too. Rick continued to stare into Kate's
face, as if looking for a sign that Cal really was trying to help.
Julie gave his hand a soft squeeze. "Look. I was brought up to treat people nicely
and with respect until they gave me good resin to do other wise. And I guess that
goes for aliens too. No, I don't trust him completely. But I am going to give him
a chance."
Rick finally look up and into Julie's eyes. He new she was right. After all, what
choice did they have. He gave her an agreeable nod.

<COME>
<YOU NEED NOURISHMENT>

Cal looked at Rick.

<YOU MAY STAY WITH HER IF YOU WISH>

Sam stepped forward and placed his hand on Julie's shoulder. "I think we should
stick together for now."

<I UNDERSTAND>

Cal turned and started out the door. Sam gave Julie's shoulder a reassuring squeeze.
Julie took a deep breath and started to follow Cal.
Rick turned to Kate one more time. "I be back." He whispered, letting his hand
slowly slide off the clear dome. Then he joined the others through the door.
They entered into a hallway, about fifty feet in length. "So, seeing how you can
read minds." Rick spoke up. "You know I don't trust you."

<I CAN NOT READ MINDS>
<BUT I DO KNOW AND UNDERSTAND YOUR DISTRUST>

"Then why is it we can here you when your not speaking." Sam asked.

<I ONLY TRANSFER MY THOUGHTS TO YOU WHEN I WISH IT>
<YOUR THOUGHTS ARE STILL YOUR OWN>

"Wait a minute." Rick's voice brought everyone to a halt. "If your trying to help
us, then why did you blow up our ship in the first place."
Cal turned to face his human companions.

<IT WAS NOT I WHO BLEW UP YOUR SHIP>

"Well your people then."

<I AM THE LAST OF MY PEOPLE HERE>

Sam looked at Rick, then turned to Cal. "Then who did?"

<THEY ARE CALLED THE MORTOCK>

"Sounds like a Klingon general."
Rick gave Sam an evil look.
Sam realized his humor may have gone a little too far. "Sorry."
Rick gave Sam a quick smile. He knew that humor was Sam's way of dealing with
stress or fear. And sometimes Rick even welcomed it. It did help ease the tension.
Rick then turned his gaze to Cal. "Why would these, Mortock, blow up our ship?
We've done nothing to them."

<YOU EXIST>

"So these guys," Sam interrupted. "just kill for the fun of it."

<NO>
<FOR FOOD>

Julie's eyes widened. "Are you saying these, things, want to eat us?"

<IF YOU ARE NOT DEAD WHEN THEY FIND YOU>
<THEY PREFER THEIR FOOD ALIVE>
<OR FRESHLY KILLED BY THEIR OWN HAND>

Rick gave Cal a look that said, I don't believe a word you said. "Then why are you
still here? How come they haven't eaten you yet?"

<THEY DO NOT KNOW I AM HERE>
<THEY DO NOT KNOW YOU ARE HERE>
<THEY DO NOT KNOW THE OTHERS ARE HERE>

"Others!" Sam suddenly perked up. He scanned the faces of Rick and Julie, then
looked at Cal. "What others?"

<THERE ARE SIX OTHERS HERE LIKE YOU>
<SEEKING SANCTUARY>

"Like us. You mean human?" Rick asked.

<NO>
<THEY ARE DIFFERENT SPECIES FROM DIFFERENT WORLDS>
<WORLDS THE MORTOCK HAVE DESTROYED>

Julie's mouth dropped. "Will we be able to meet them?"

<YOU WILL MEET TWO>
<THE OTHER FOUR CAN NOT SURVIVE IN OUR ENVIRONMENT>
<COME>
<YOU MUST HAVE NOURISHMENT>

Cal turned and proceeded through the next door. They entered into a huge cave with
large pipes extending out into darkness. The pipes were at least ten feet in
diamiter.

<THESE ARE THE SORCE OF WATER, HEAT, AND AIR>

They then entered into the next room.
