Paine's Golden Great Lane - The Beginning

January 16, 2010

I officially registered my son Garrett and I for the San Francisco Marathon yesterday. Take a look at the website - . We are signed up for the 1st half of the Marathon, officially. This is a 13.1 mile course, that is quite challenging I am told, and it is the portion of the race that runs over the Golden Gate Bridge. We have to run at least a 13 minute per mile average for the full race, which is a slow pace and should be attainable. If we ran that pace we would complete the 13.1 mile race in about 3 hours. We of course could do much better but that is a starting point. We are on Team # 10, which is one of the "run for a cause" teams. Take a look at that on the website to see what it is about. I signed myself up for train for free, which means if I raise money for the cause I am running for, I will get my training and race fees refunded. The San Francisco Marathon™ Official Charity Program supports the families and members of the United States Military. We are committed to raising funds to support the men and women who have put their lives on the line for our safety and well being.

The training program I am on consists of the following:

* Detailed day-to-day Training Schedule
* Several workouts per week (a track workout, week night runs, and long run on Saturday, with Boot Camp included)
* RRCA Certified Coaches
* Coach Support on long runs and at the track, and via email
* Experienced Pacers for Saturday long runs and track sessions
* Online Running Resources: training support partners, team chatroom, cross training, stretching tips
* Runner Seminars by experts on injury prevention, heart rate training, nutrition
* Weekly e-newsletter regarding weekly runs, runner tips, etc.
